Navigating Dubai International Airport (DXB)—one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs—is far easier when you break it down terminal by terminal.
Because DXB’s main terminals operate almost as distinct airports with their own concourses, transit systems, and access points, understanding each terminal individually ensures a smooth, stress-free journey.
At a Glance: DXB Terminal Breakdown
1. Terminal 1: International Airlines Hub

Terminal 1 handles over 60 major international airlines operating outside of the Emirates group. While check-in and arrivals happen in the main T1 building, all departure gates, duty-free shopping, and lounges are housed in Concourse D.
- Primary Carriers: Air India, British Airways, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, and other global international carriers.
- Key Transit Link: The Automated People Mover (APM)—an underground airside transit train that connects the main T1 building to Concourse D in just two minutes.
- Public Transit: Direct access via the Dubai Metro Red Line (Airport Terminal 1 Station).
Passenger Flow & Navigation:
- Departures: Drop off at upper-level T1 driveway $\rightarrow$ Main Check-in Hall $\rightarrow$ Security & Smart Gates $\rightarrow$ Take the APM train to Concourse D for boarding.
